James A. Antinnes, M.D.![]() View Resumé Dr. Antinnes is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthpaedic surgeon with a diverse and unique background in spinal disorders. He trained at Yale University where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in biomechanics of the spine. While there, he trained under Dr. Manohar Panjabi, considered one of the most influential spinal researchers in the world. He was then selected for a prestigious spine research fellowship in Zurich, Switzerland where he lived for three years, devoting his time researching the cervical and lumbar spine. While in Switzerland, Dr. Antinnes traveled to many European countries and worked with many of the preeminent spine surgeons in Europe, including Dr. Dieter Grob, one of the finest spine surgeons in the international area. After medical school, Dr. Antinnes trained at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. He furthered his training in San Francisco at the University of California, where he completed a fellowship in spinal deformities. Under the guidance of Drs. David Bradford and Serena Hu, considered two of the most influential spinal deformity surgeons in the country, Dr. Antinnes performed hundreds of complex spinal reconstruction surgeries on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Throughout his training, Dr. Antinnes has stayed involved in spinal research and has authored numerous books and papers and lectured around the world. He was recently asked to write the chapter on adult scoliosis for the esteemed International Society for study of the lumbar spine. Dr. Antinnes' practice focuses on all aspects of spinal surgery for both adults and children. He continues to use new and innovative procedures, including disc replacement surgery, and the newer, minimally invasive techniques to decrease postoperative pain and speed recovery. He is pleased to combine his caring and thoughtful approach to patient care with his diverse and comprehensive experience in spinal disorders to the people of South Mississippi.
